Laura Vargas Llanas is a Seville based artist working under the creative name of Kanica. She creates collections of hand-embroidered fibre artworks and decorative pieces influenced by a panoply of different sources; ranging from her fascination with the principles of the Bauhaus Movement, particularly by the integration of art and craft, by the rich heritage of decorative arts, the clean lines of mid-century design, the bold geometric forms and colours of Modern Art, and by the vibrant influence of architects such as Le Corbusier.
Her work has a strong emphasis on the geometric interplay of shapes and colour, to evoke a sense of harmony and balance within each composition. A continuous quest resulting in unique artworks that fuse traditional artisanal techniques with modern design principles.
She graduated from The American University of Paris and Christie’s Education London with a degree in History of Modern and Contemporary Art and has worked in the art industry for many year before launching Kanica in 2017. Laura is currently represented by Partnership Editions London and Wilo & Grove Gallery in Paris, and regularly collaborates with Paul Smith Design, Pentreath & Hall, Art for Charity Collective, and Maza Art Madrid, as well as working closely on bespoke commissions with renowned international interior designers and private clients.
