LAB

Kanica LAB develops from the urge to further explore my own artistic practice and from the need to create work that embraces the simplicity, raw and authentic connection to the material, influenced by past and timeless traditions. With every stitch on the canvas, I am drawn deeper into a world where craftsmanship meets creativity. From the puffiness of the wool to the rawness of the jute, each strand tells a story of resilience and resourcefulness, echoing those who worked with these fibres before me.

Through this new line of work, I seek to honour the traditions of hand-craftsmanship while pushing the boundaries of contemporary art, bridging the gap between past and present with every stitch. The process is both methodical and intuitive, allowing me to respond to the material’s inherent qualities, as well as serving as a form of self-expression and personal growth. It allows me to explore themes, emotions and intimate concepts, transforming them into tangible works of art.

The process is not always linear, but that is what contributes to the richness and depth of the final artwork. I seek not only to respect the traditions of hand-craftsmanship but also aim to push the boundaries of contemporary fibre art, creating a dialogue between past and present through the timeless medium of fibre.
